Ice Ih Icosahedron - 2020

Wood, Paint, Light - 86cm Diameter

Out of 18 possible configurations, it is ice Ih, or Hexagonal Crystal lattice, that forms naturally in earth’s atmosphere. Under appropriate temperature, pressure and humidity conditions, water grows into delicate snowflakes that are infinite in their possible appearance, yet follow immutable structural organization. An elaborate aerial dance of six-fold symmetry between ice and vapor is responsible for the intricate form snowflakes present upon landing on the ground.

This sculpture is an attempt at bringing forward the magic of crystalline water in its most wondrous form.
